Here comes the Portugal Rail Pass

The Portugal Rail Pass has become available for purchase and it is a well-timed effort, because these days rail travel is growing in popularity.

The Portugal Rail Pass can only be bought by foreigners so it is tailored directly to travelers coming to visit the country. To use the rail pass, the traveler has to purchase a ticket in one of the many available ticket offices before boarding each train. The price is set to 73 Euro for adults in second class, and the entire price list can be found here.

Travel for three or seven days

The rail pass can be bought in the CP (Comboios de Portugal) ticket offices around the country. With the pass, the traveler can travel for three or seven days during one month on the following trains:

  • Alfa Pendular
  • Intercidades
  • Regional/InterRegional
  • Urban trains

The rail pass also includes a Viva Viagem pass that enables travelers to use the Lisbon urban trains.

As Portugal joins the effort to enable travelers to use trains, the momentum is growing for rail. Earlier this year, the German Rail Pass was released and proved to be a recipe for success.
